Mana Lesman

Artists:
Mana Lesman, Audrey Romine, Patti Smith

Mana Lesman: "I paint what I feel strongly about. I feel strongly about a lot of things. I have sought to make visible my feelings because I think it is important to continuously awaken consciousness, my own and my audience. Feelings lead to action and we must examine, always what action we choose to take. Only with a sense of others and the worlds around us, past, present, and future, can we make rational and relevant moves in our lives. My art is dedicated to that awakening."

Mana Lesman began drawing and painting in the mountains of Montana where she grew up. Having spend the early sixties studying art and architecture at Denver University, Kansas State University and Kansas City Art Institute, the artist traveled across the United States observing people and making sketches. In 1964 she settled in Chicago where she worked the next seven years as a product designer. During this time, she turned her artistic skills toward recording the scenes and the people of Chicago. To the people of the area, she was known as "la Pintora" -- the Lady Painter and was often found in the schoolyards or side streets painting in watercolor or oil. Ms. Lesman is dedicated to seeing arts reach out to the community in every possible way.

Audrey Romine began to take an interest in art at a very young age and was encouraged by family to develop that interest into a continually progressive style that is uniquely her own. Although she has had very little schooling, Audrey has worked with numerous mediums, her favorites include oil pastels, colored pencils, acrylics, amerkers and now beads.

Audrey recently learned the beadweaving style known as the peyote stitch and has spent the last several months exploring how to create and develop her patterns straight from her mind's eye to the beads. Audrey now looks forward to manifesting new visions for all the possibilities of beaded art.

Patti Smith is a Helena resident working as a nurse. She grew up in southern California and her work has been influenced from an early age by Latin American Folk Art. Her life is distinguished by years of caring for patients as a registered nurse, and her love of her two children.

From Patti’s earliest memories drawing and art has played an integral part of her life. As a child Patti loved to draw horses. Today Patti is drawing the things she loves. She is currently working with colored pencils. Her work has a whimsical quality to it including frogs, flowers, bugs, skulls and other creatures. Patti is inspired by the beauty she finds in wild plants and animals seen on trips with her Sweetheart Fred in her beloved adopted state Montana.

Patti has worked as a graphic artist designing web pages, CD covers and illustrating books. Currently her favorites artists include Georgia O’Keefe, Diego Rivera, Bob Morgan, Monte Dolack, Mary Beth Percival, Robert Burcar and Frida Kahlo.
