Helena's Biggest & Best Food, Blues & Brews Extravaganza

The 13th Annual Micro-Brew Review & Cool Dog Ball will be held Friday, January 26th at the Helena Civic Center Ballroom from 6 p.m. to midnight. The Brew Review & Cool Dog Ball is the largest fundraiser benefiting the RACE to the SKY, a 350 mile sled dog race to be held February 3 - 9th. The Race to the Sky will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary as a great Montana Tradition as mushers and their teams will compete in this prestigious race along Montana's Continental Divide.

The 13th Anniversary of the Micro-Brew Review will feature its largest lineup ever. Over thirty-two of the finest micro-beers from Montana and the northwest will be available throughout the night. Montana breweries participating in the Brew Review include Blackfoot River Brewing and Lewis & Clark Brewery of Helena, Big Sky and Bayern Brewing of Missoula, Bitterroot Brewing of Hamilton, Harvest Moon of Belt and Lang Brewery of Marion. In addition to the micro-beers there will be wine, non-alcoholic beverages and a variety of entrees and appetizers will be available for purchase. Taste tickets for a six ounce beer are $1 each or six for $5.

Advance tickets for Helena's most popular wintertime event will go on sale on Friday, January 8th. The event is limited to the first 1,500 participants and tickets are available at Bert & Ernie's, Topper's Market, The Overland Express, Staggering Ox and the Downtown Helena Office. Advance tickets are $15 and everyone must be 21 or older to attend and have a valid picture ID. Any remaining tickets, if available will be sold at the door for $17, plus each ticket holder will receive a commemorative Cool Dog glass. Cool Dog is the handsome sun glass wearing Siberian Husky who serves as the official mascot for the Race to the Sky.

At 9 p.m., Big Mumbo Blues band from Spokane will get the dance floor jumpin' and shakin' with their unique northwest style with a little Chicago Blues for spice. The Big Mumbo Blues Band made their Helena debut at the Mount Helena Music Festival this past July. For this performance they will add both their sax and trumpet player to the mix to accompany Northwest Inland Award Winning band. The cast of Big Mumbo Blues Band has been together since 1994 when they embarked on a new vision called Mumbo Jumbo. Having been nominated for awards every year of their existence, they clenched these awards, Best Album, Best Band in the Pacific Northwest, Best Keyboard (2 years in a row), Best Horns and Best Keyboard. Come join Pat Barclay/ Guitar and Vocals, Mike Lenke/ Trumpet and Vocals, and Chuck Swanson/ Saxophone and vocals.
